Crazy day

We were all in the hall when it happened.Room 8 was coming inside, and Mr Ready was telling us directions for us to go home. “no one is aloud to go on Tripoli street’’ There was a big accident in Tripoli. We were waiting for our parents to come and pick us up,and no one can leave until their parents come. “BEBEBEBE EVACUATE TO ROOM 5” the siren in the hall was going crazy. Kids started to cry and some even tried to leave. Then I saw my mum walk in the hall, she sight that me and my sister was going to be ok,I saw the teachers trying to calm the students down. When some of the students tried to leave Miss Ashley scemed for them to set down. They said to close the blinds then i panicked I Thought that there was someone outside.Ms Ready said to go out on the field and i grabbed my sisters hand and went out. They told us that it was a false alarm some of the kids were still crying. More and more parents started to come and get their kids I saw my mum and then we left.

The two smart monkeys

One day in the huge rainforest, there were two monkeys swing on the vines and playing, after they were playing, they went to go and claim a tree and get some bananas,as they came down, something was waiting for them.

A huge black puma was waiting for them to come down,as soon as the monkeys came down from the tree, they heard a big grow, when they looked behind them, they saw the huge puma, then they ran as fast as they could.

They stop, they were at a dead end, they head the puma getting closer and closer, but they had an idea, they could go up a tree and hid, one minutes later, the puma arrived,he looked everywhere even in the river, after that he gave up and went away, the monkeys were very
happy.

Parihaka

Last week we learnt that there was something called the New Zealand Land Wars that happened between 1845-1872. It was all about who controlled the land in NZ. It was complicated because some land was traded fairly and some was taken. The wars were imbalanced (unfair) because the Europeans had more manpower (people), and a higher quantity and quality of weapons (more of them and better ones). The Maoris were outnumbered so they had to use secret plans and some guerilla warfare tactics in order to fight back.
The big idea about this is that the two groups of people viewed the land differently - Maori’s held a collectivist viewpoint, where land and other resources (oceans, fish, forests) should be cared for and shared by everyone. Europeans held an individualistic viewpoint, and wanted to own the land in order to have farms and make money. Even today there viewpoints cause conflict around the world.

Parihaka
Our first questions -
Junefia - What does Parihaka mean?
Marlene - why did the people send the kids out?
Dyzon - why were the two guys sent to prison for 16 months?
Marilyn - why was the village surrounded by soldiers?
Lynch - what people left the land that Parihaka was built on? (Who was there before them?)
Garth - why did Te Whiti go to jail?
Anittah - was there a reason Why all the Maori men went to jail? So when the men go the Children and the ladies will get scared and leave.
Ana - why were the protectors put in jail?
Maria - why did the government promise the people land?
Moana - why did 200 children block the road?
Wesley - does Parihaka still exist?
Tisharn - why was Parihaka famous?
Angellynah - why did the soldiers burn the peoples houses down and destroy their crops?
Michael - How was the government able to keep Te Whiti and Tohu for 16 months without a trial??
Tsai - Why did the Europeans want the land? Because they were jalless that the maori had land and the parihaka did not.
